When it Comes to Poetry, Halifax Slams

I have a piece on Halifax's vibrant poetry and spoken word scene, featuring our poet laureate Shauntay Grant, in The Coast's back to school special issue this week. Click the picture for the story.

There's room for all different kinds of poets and poetry and I'm glad to see variations get their due. I happen to like a lot of dead white guys. It's not their fault they were born that way and happened to be poets. But there is a lot of good stuff coming out of all sorts of traditions today and that strengthens the field.

Me too, Charles. It's just that their near exclusive domain over academic literature has turned far too many students off poetry - wanted to show there is more on tap.
